Toilets represent Rahu in symbolic Vaastu Shastra. Hence the proper place for toilets in the house is South-West corner of the house. In ancient days the toilets used to be outside the house but in modern times due to the space constraints in the urban areas, people used to construct their toilets inside the house itself. Though it is not an ideal situation in Vaastu Shastra, yet its necessity has compelled to make room for it inside the house itself, Toilets in South-West direction itself is good in terms of Vaastu norms but the wrong placement of toilets have their own effects depending upon their locations.
- Toilets in South and West are permissible because of the friendship of planet Rahu with Mars and Saturn which are the rulers of South and West respectively.
- Toilets in North-West are other defective placements for the inhabitants. People living there will generally have stomach problems related to gas formation. Mother and the third child will experience more problems related to mental disturbances as this combination is akin to Grahan yoga ( eclipse) i.e. combination of Rahu and Moon.
- Toilets in North will have serious impact on the income and expenditures as a result of the combination of Rahu with Mercury. - North-East location of toilet is the worst placement for toilet and it is considered as one of the Mahadoshas of this corner. It is similar to Guru Chandaal Yoga in astrological terms. Toilets (rahu) when placed in North-East (place of Jupiter) make this inauspicious combination due to this placement.
